CBT Gillingham – Ride Legally and Safely
If you live in or around Gillingham and want to start riding a moped or motorcycle, LMRT’s CBT Gillingham course is the ideal place to begin. A Compulsory Basic Training course is required by law before you can ride on public roads. It isn’t a pass-or-fail test—it’s a training session designed to teach you the skills and knowledge needed to stay safe.
The course begins with an introduction and eyesight check, followed by a full explanation of motorcycle controls. Once you’ve understood the basics, you’ll move into an off-road training area to build confidence in handling the bike. This is a great opportunity to practise clutch control, braking, and manoeuvring at different speeds.
After that, our instructors lead a classroom session covering essential road safety knowledge. This includes advice on dealing with junctions, spotting hazards, and defensive riding techniques. The training finishes with an on-road ride, where you’ll be guided through real traffic conditions under the supervision of an instructor.
When you complete the course, you’ll be awarded your CBT Certificate (DL196), which is valid for two years. This certificate allows you to ride on public roads with L plates, opening the door to independent riding.
