About the CBT
What is a CBT?
CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training. It is a one-day course that lets you ride a moped or 125cc on UK roads with L-plates.
Who needs one?
Almost everyone. The only exception is people with a UK car licence from before 1 February 2001, they can ride a 50cc moped without a CBT.
How long does it last?
Two years. After that you must take it again, or pass a full motorbike test to ride without L-plates.
What happens on the day?
About 6–8 hours total. You learn the bike controls, do exercises in a safe area, then ride on the road with an instructor. We provide the bike and helmet.
