Master a manual motorcycle
A two-hour course completed after your CBT, teaching you to ride a manual 125cc motorcycle with gears. It focuses on the core skills and controls of manual riding.
It is designed for riders who have already completed their CBT on an automatic scooter, or who simply want to develop their confidence riding with gears.

The core skills of riding with gears
Clutch control
One down, four up. You will learn to control the clutch at slow speeds, pull away smoothly and come to a confident stop on a manual motorcycle.
Changing gears with confidence
Ride in different scenarios and conditions to learn how to select the right gear for every occasion, and change up and down the gearbox with confidence.
What you need
To take the Gear Conversion course, please make sure you can meet the following requirements on the day.
Please note: the Gear Conversion course is not a licence in itself. It builds your manual skills, ready for a CBT or licence course on a geared bike.
- The correct licence card: UK driving, UK provisional, or an EU licence with a UK counterpart number. Photocopies or images are not accepted.
- Be able to read a registration plate from 20.5 metres.
- Speak and understand English and the Highway Code.
- Be able to ride an adult-sized bicycle.
- Wear suitable clothing, including thick trousers such as jeans, and boots.
