Lewisham Road Safety

London Borough of Lewisham

Lewisham is committed to improving the safety of all road users, in particular those most vulnerable on our roads.

The borough wide speed limit has been introduced to increase safety for all road users, in particular those most at risk. By lowering speeds on all borough roads we are working towards the Mayor of London’s target of Vision zero.

Safety of bike riders in the borough is if great importance to the team. The online pre CBT programme is a commitment to helping newer riders start their riding with greater awareness and knowledge, for more experienced riders the borough provides free BikeSafe vouchers.

As well as a commitment to using the casualty data to target the most at risk from injury on the road there is a focus on improving the environment on the school journey and helping to improve the health and wellbeing of all road users in the borough.

The road safety team work with schools and businesses in the community to increase awareness of the importance of road danger reduction and to increase active travel. The programmes run by road safety range from cycle training for adults and children, a cycle loan scheme, school talks and school travel planning, car seat checks the list goes on.
